These are Ghana’s "worse times", Mahama must show his "worth"
Former Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has challenged President John Mahama to show his worth as a leader as the country goes through its “worse” moments.
“Without a doubt, since January 1, 2001, these are the worse of times,” Nduom said, adding: “Leaders are not made for the best of times. Leaders show their worth during bad times.”
Nduom, a businessman and entrepreneur wrote in a statement he posted on his Facebook page that the President appears to have lost touch with the struggles of the ordinary Ghanaian.
“Our President John Dramani Mahama still insists that Ghana is not facing a crisis but just going through some challenges. Perhaps as he flies sky high in the Presidential jet, he does not see our problems in close range. Perhaps the height blurs the vision.
“Those of us at ground level see and experience serious problems of power outage (dum, dum), unemployment, high cost of production, stress leading to high blood pressure even among our youth and preventable diseases such as cholera among others. We suffer humiliation when we travel abroad due to the stigma of cholera and corruption,” Nduom added.
Below is the rest of Nduom’s statement:
If our leaders will not acknowledge our problems and solve them, we the citizens must take the matter into our own hands and shine light where there is darkness. We must show the best citizenship by conserving power, paying our taxes, cleaning our homes and work places and disposing the garbage responsibly, stop urinating openly in public spaces and work for maximum results as employees and employers. We must buy what we produce here in Ghana so we can create jobs for our people. When things go wrong lets open our mouths and talk. But let's protect the image of our country at all times.
I know that times are hard. So my family is trying its best. We are creating jobs in all ten regions though it has been tough. We borrow to build. We protect the investments and savings of our customers at great cost. We pay our taxes. It’s not easy. But this is my country, my land and my people. This is where I feel at home. Our employees are working hard to brighten our corner.
Yes, we are living in worse times. This is our country. Let's show that we can be best citizens.
