Police Arrest National Security Officer

A 33-year-old National Security officer, Francis Kwesi Twumasi, has been arrested for shooting a young man at Ayigbetown close to the West Hills Shopping Mall at Weija.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Police Command, ASP Effia Tenge said around 8:30pm on Monday, the 24-year-old victim on board a taxi with two others were on their way to SCC Junction from Kasoa when the National Security officer drove into their lane while attempting to make an unlawful U-turn at Ayigbetown.

After an unsuccessful attempt to complete his unlawful U-Turn, the suspect ordered the driver of the taxi to reverse his taxi.

The taxi driver according to ASP Tenge obeyed the orders of the suspect but declined to undertake further orders.

“Due to his resistance, the suspect got down from his car and threatened to arrest the victim. The other occupants of the taxi questioned the National Security officer on the reason for the arrest and they attempted to prevent the suspect from effecting the arrest,” she explained.

The suspect refused to release the taxi driver and after heated exchanges, he shot one of the occupants of the taxi with his pistol at close range in his jaw.

“It alarmed people around and the victim was rushed to a private hospital but was later referred to the Police Hospital but he is now in a critical condition at the 37 Military Hospital,” she added.

The suspect is expected to appear in court on Thursday, December 18.
