Gen. Mosquito not usurping my powers - Kwabena Adjei

The chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Adjei, has denied claims that the general secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has usurped his powers.

He said vociferous Nketia, who is popularly known as General Mosquito, has been his long-time friend and flows better with him as a colleague executive member of the party.

According to him, the general secretary is on top of his game and his loud mouth nature must not be mistaken as seizing the powers of the chairman.

“We work together right from the time we were in parliament. People think I have given him all the chance to take the limelight out of me. It’s not true. It’s democracy and that’s how it should work. I support him,” Wayo Wayo, as he is affectionately called, told Accra-based Citi FM.

“In the past where the Chairman had taken the General Secretary’s work, we have stopped… I support it. We trust each other.”

General Mosquito was at the campaign launch of Dr. Adjei a few weeks ago and stole the headlines. He said he sees nothing wrong with that.

“Why shouldn’t he support me? He supports me and I support him. We worked together, right from the time we were in Parliament and I have given him the chance to perform his duties as prescribed in our constitution.”

The two are standing for re-election come the December 20 national delegates’ congress which is in limbo over a court case that will be determined on Thursday.
