Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw has lost the chance to represent the Calabar South/Akpabuyo/ Bakassi Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Kate was defeated at the primaries, which was held last Saturday, in Calabar, Cross River State. And in the spirit of fairness, the actress made the announcement via her Twitter handle, writing: “The primary was conducted in an orderly manner. It was fair and transparent. Sadly I did not make it. My congrats to the winner.”
She continued by saying: “Happy Sunday to all my great people. God bless you for the support and words of encouragement. God will reward you same abundantly.”
Meanwhile, fellow Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot emerged as the candidate to represent All Progressive Congress (APC), Surulere constituency in the upcoming Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), election,, after winning the ticket at APC primaries held in Lagos last Tuesday.
He defeated his counterpart, Mr. Kabiru Lawal to win the slot. Prior to the election, Desmond Elliot received massive endorsement from the women and youth groups in Surulere Constituency. Olajide Abiodun, spokesperson of the group, attributed the endorsement to the actor’s immense contributions to the constituency.
According to Abiodun, the Nollywood actor gave scholarships to youths in the constituency to attend Open University. In addition, he provided free health insurance for the elderly and empowerment programmes for the widows and single mothers among others.
“If he could successfully execute these programmes as a private individual, we are sure of better performances from him when he becomes a member of Lagos State House of Assembly 2015,” the group said.
