Mahama to inaugurate renovated Kumasi airport today

President John Mahama will later on Monday inaugurate the refurbished Kumasi Airport.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the II is expected to join the President for the ceremony.

The completion of the $29 million rehabilitation project will now enable the Kumasi airport to allow planes to take off and fly in at night.
In October this year, the Ghana Airport Company partially closed the airport to upgrade the tarmac, install an airfield ground lighting system and upgrade other facilities at the airport.
The situation angered airline operators and passengers who said the unannounced closure caused them to lose thousands of dollars and created inconveniences.

The commissioning of the completed project by the President will pave way for the commencement of night operations at the Kumasi Airport.

The airport is currently only open to traffic for 12 hours daily, from 6am to 6pm.
