Shatta Wale calls for peace, performs in ‘High Grade Family’ T-shirt at ‘S’ Concert

Controversial dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr., more commonly known by his stage name, Shatta Wale, on Saturday night reached out to Ghana’s oldest dancehall fraternity, the High Grade Family as he performed on the ‘S’ concert stage.

Shatta Wale, who has built a lot of credit for himself on the Ghanaian dancehall scene over a short period of time[less than three years], rallying on an aggressive group of young loyalists known as the Shatta Movement, and engaging in lyrical battles with ‘High Grade King’ Samini, is calling for a truce.

There has been a deep-sited rivalry between the two after Wale declared himself "dancehall King with the highest level of respect in the whole Ghana", a pronouncement that raffled feathers of Samini loyalists and the ‘Linda’ singer himself, who has been around since the release of his debut album, Dankwasere in 2004.

The two have been engaged in a messy lyrical battle since 2013 but Shatta Wale’s manager Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson the time for truce has come.

According to him the ‘Dancehall Commando’ who appeared on the 'S' concert stage on Saturday December 13 with his crew, wearing Shatta Movement designed T-shirts but later removed it at a point to perform his senior’s hitsong ‘Linda’ was making a symbolic statement.

“Unity – it symbolises unity – we’ve consistently pushed for unity our act on stage last night was geared toward the same thing. That we must all unify and take dancehall to the next level. It’s a call for solidarity and Shatta really wants that,” he told Starr Entertainment in an exclusive interview.

Hanson who believes his client has attained the highest level of stardom in the industry said the Shatta Movement King will continue to push for unity until he gets the desired results.

“That’s what a leader does, a leader is supposed to bring everybody together. When you are up there, there are times when you want to throw tantrums based on certain decisions and behaviours of people, but when everything is done, what a good leader does is to try and bring everybody together and that’s what Shatta is doing,” he added.

Meanwhile Samini who performed after Shatta Wale may have ignored the latter's call as he made statements that according to some of his [Samini]followers meant he was not satisfied with the approach used by the 'Whine Ya Waist' star.

"You know the time Samini said 'as for High Grade Family we don't like self arrangement'? he was talking to Shatta. He thinks he can just come and take someone's glory after ten years in music" said Ernest, a Samini fan who got involved in a heated argument over who the best performer was with other concertgoers on the sidelines of the concert.

But artiste manager, Hanson, said his client is being honest with his request for peace and will patiently wait for a response from high grade.

"A lot of people don’t even listen to Shatta they only listen to his antics but if you listen to him, 70% of the time he is talking about how we can move this thing to the highest level."
