Court blocks labour unions from embarking on strikes

The Industrial and Labour court has restrained the 12 labour unions from embarking on further strikes.

The 12 labour unions recently embarked on a two-week strike over the management of their tier two funds.

The labour unions want to select their own fund manager but government insists their pension is safe with the Pensions Alliance Trust.

The court presided over by Justice Saeed  Kwaku Gyan, Tuesday, granted an interlocutory injunction sort by the State restraining the unions from embarking on further strike actions.

According to Justice Gyan, he could not readily establish any constitutional provision that guarantees workers the right to strike.

He added that any further strike by the unions could affect the provision of essential public services and pose a serious threat to the national interest.

The injunction takes immediate effect until the final determination of the case.

The case has however been adjourned sine dine.
