Ghana’s security on high alert over Boko Haram recruitment

Information gathered  has shown that the country’s security services have been put on high alert to foil any possible terrorist attacks.

It follows the reported recruitment of some vulnerable Ghanaians by terrorist groups including Boko Haram.

An international relations analyst who dropped the hint said the militant groups are using social media to lure the Ghanaians into their crusade.

The Parliamentary select committee on Defense and Interior say its attention has been drawn to the worrying development.

Chairman of the Committee, Fritz Baffour speaking to the Press , said the security agencies have been well equipped to avert possible dangers.

“I can conclusively say that they are aware that there is a possibility…if we look at all the threats and how we can combat those threats, it is very much within the remit of the armed forces and the security services of the possibility [of an attack].

“We are aware of the threat level and we will do our best to ensure that our troops are adequately equipped to counter any incursion in this country,” Baffour said.

Meanwhile, the National Peace Council is asking civil society groups and government to step up education against violent attacks.

George Amoh, the Director of Conflict Resolution and Management said Ghanaians must be more security conscious.
